Georgetown Man Crashes into Utility Pole

(Harbeson, Del.)- The Delaware State Police Crash reconstruction Unit is currently investigating a serious car crash that occurred Sunday morning south of Harbeson.

The preliminary investigation has determined that the crash occurred Sunday, November 02, at approximately 1:40 a.m., as Damien H. Sargent, 22, of Georgetown, was operating a 2000 Ford Mustang and was traveling in a southbound direction on Beaver Dam Road (SR 23) north of Stockley Road (CR 283), approximately 4 miles south east of Harbeson.

Sargent then failed to negotiate a slight right hand curve in the roadway causing his vehicle to exit the east edge of the roadway as it rotated in a clockwise direction.

Sargent's vehicle then slid approximately 235' before striking the concrete base of a utility pole where it came to rest.

Damien Sargent, who was not properly restrained at the time of the crash, was removed from the scene by Emergency Medical Services, and transported to the Beebe Hospital before being flown by Lifenet to the Christiana Hospital where he was admitted with serious injuries.

This crash remains under investigation by the Delaware State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit. Speed and alcohol use are being considered as factors in the crash.

Beaver Dam Road was closed for approximately 3 hours as the crash was investigated and cleared.
