DELAWARE - On Tuesday in his weekly COVID-19 press conference, Governor John Carney discussed testing, getting children back in classrooms, and plans for trick-or-treating.

When it comes to the First State, Sussex County has the highest rate of infection. CaRNEY SAid THAT HIGHER RATE OF INFECTION IS STILL TIED TO CASES IN the poultry industry in Sussex County, going back to April. Carney also said he was concerned that there would be an uptick in cases from Labor Day weekend. He says the good news is the number of cases is not as bad as it could have been.

Delaware is in what Carney calls "an uncomfortable middle zone." The state is still seeing an average of around 104 new cases a day.

"We are not as healthy as we want to be, we don't have as little COVID-19 community spread as we'd like to see, but we are not as bad as other states and not as bad as we've been," said the governor.

THE GOAL FOR THE StATE REMAINS THE SAME: TO GET KIDS BACK IN CLASSROOMS. THE GOVERNOR VISitED wOODBRIDGE HIGH SCHOOL, AND SAYS HE WAS VERY IMPRESSED WITH WHAT HE SAW.

"The students seemed totally on board with mask wearing, it was not a problem everybody expected it to be, which was good news," said Carney.

Division of Public Health Director Dr. Karryl Rattay SAid THERE ARE NO KNOWN CASES of SPREAD IN SCHOOLs, SO FAR. BUT THAT'S A DIFFERENT STORY FOR COLLEGE CAMPUSES.

"We have seen some higher cases at University of Delaware, a little better situation at Delaware State," said Governor Carney.

Children's safety is another priority as Halloween approaches.

"It's a great holiday for the children and families. With COVID-19, it's kind of appropriate everyone will be wearing masks," Carney joked.

Another main takeaway from Tuesday's presser was to "Get tested, get tested, get tested. [We] really need to push up that testing denominator," said the governor.

Delawareans have the option of going to a fixed or pop-up testing site, and buying home kit, which will be mailed overnight. Once you take the test, you can drop it back off at a UPS box.
