H.O.B. Elementary Students Celebrate Black History

MILTON, Del.- While Black History Month officially ended on Thursday, students and staff at H.O. Brittingham Elementary in Milton paid tribute on Friday.

The school hosted its annual Black History Month program, where students read quotes from inspirational African-Americans. This year, students were also treated to a drumline performance by Delaware State University students and a ventriloquist skit by Air Force veteran Ken Huff.

Librarian Bevelene Holloman puts on the event each year.

"It makes me so happy to see the kids wanting to be included in my vision," says Holloman. "I don't turn away anyone. They want a part, I'll find something for them."

Friday afternoon's performance included a student produced video as well. Holloman says the event is about so much more than learning history.

"It's very important for me to make them know that being kind and being nice to each other," she says. "Don't look at the color, your size, nationality--treat everybody with kindness."

The school is hosting a second program at 6 p.m. on March 1st that is open to the public.
