House Fire on Prime Hook Road Leaves One Dead, Two Injured

(MILTON, Del.) - A house fire just off of Prime Hook Road in Milton leaves one family member dead and two injured. Multiple fire companies in Sussex and Kent Counties responded just before 10 am on January 27th, 2019. They remained on the scene for hours until the final flames were put out.

The Milton fire company arrived to find one person dead inside the house. Fire officials say that a ten-year-old male and 39-year-old female jumped from a 2nd-floor bedroom and have been treated and released from the Milford Memorial hospital after suffering from smoke inhalation and contusions.

Milton Fire Chief Derrick Harvey tells WRDE: "We had a report of subjects trapped. Upon arrival of our first units, we put a couple hose lines in service and started fighting the fire. We had several companies respond in to assist us in putting the fire out. We did have three victims involved in it. Two of them made it out. Unfortunately one didn't make it out." Harvey says that the two injured victims have been taken to nearby hospitals.

The Delaware State Fire Marshal's Office will continue to investigate and determine just what ignited the flames.

Officials estimate damage at $50,000.
