REHOBOTH BEACH, Del.- This weekend would usually be the time when Rehoboth Beach celebrates Sea Witch, but it has been cancelled, now the city has also cancelled the annual tree lighting and holiday sing along. This does not mean the holiday spirit is totally one. Even though it wont be the same scene at the bandstand, businesses say the spirit will still be here. The event won't be public and a full show as usual, but the tree will still go up, and music will still play during the holidays. Unfortunately for those looking forward to the tree lighting, it will not be the same environment this year, but many people were expecting this. Greg, from Lewes said, "It's pretty much like this wherever you go now. People try to make the best out of the situation and you know still try to be festive." Rehoboth Beach is still decked out for Halloween, even with the Sea Witch Parade cancelled. But the city still letting people know it can still feel like the holidays. The city is still asking people to come out and enjoy the holidays because a lot of the businesses downtown take it into their own hands to decorate and celebrate the holidays in their own way. "We always decorate the Coffee Mill here outside, we put out the decorations out," said Mel Damascena from the Coffee Mill. If you have visited downtown, you might know the famous vintage truck, Chester. The Coffee Mill always decorates the truck to celebrate holidays and seasons.Damascena says he will still deck out the truck this year for the holidays. "People love to walk by and look and take pictures it just has that feel, a small town and bringing people together and they have something to look at," he said. The city says, "Beginning on Black Friday, November 27, and continuing throughout the weekend, holiday music will accompany your walk through our bandstand plaza and its adjoining businesses." So even though the normal public celebration won't happen, it'll bring some cheer. Many people have also been planning for a very different holiday season with friends and family. "We are, you know it's usually Thanksgiving's 15-20 people, this year it's not going to happen," said Greg. And don't worry there's till plenty of time to get you decorations ready, but the holidays are coming fast. The city says as for Halloween it usually does not have a lot of kids coming downtown to trick or treat, but if they do, the city says follow DPH Guidelines, wear a mask social distance and stay safe. Also, Santa will not be on the Boardwalk this year. So if kids are looking to tell Santa what they want for Christmas, they may need to mail their letters to the North Pole.
