I Pink I Can Walking Marathon Raises Money For Locals Fighting Breast Cancer

SUSSEX COUNTY, Del.-Walking to save lives. Breast Cancer Awareness month is just a week away, but a group of local woman are already working to battle breast cancer.

The group  I Pink I Can is walking marathon to raise money for a local organization, Women Supporting Women. What may seem like just a walk to some, means the world to breast cancer survivor, Tania Pritz.

"Even though walking 18 miles like we did on Monday was incredibly difficult, it is much much less difficult than the challenges I faced with early stage breast cancer, and no comparison to women doing long term chemotherapy and who have a worse prognosis than I had," said Pritz.

The women are starting and ending their 26.2 mile journey at the Lewes Public Library parking lot. While it's a long way to go, they've been training for months.

"Training is key and I really enjoy the companionship of my partner. I've made a lifelong friend and that's an incredible byproduct of all of this," said Pritz.

You don't have to walk a marathon to support their journey. By simply donating on the I Pink I Can website, the money goes to the organization Women Supporting Women, helping local women battle breast cancer.

"Women Supporting Women provides free services to women and men battling breast cancer. Everything from wigs and bras to supportive chairs and support meetings and resources. They are very vital in this community," said Co-Organizer of the walk, Robbie Tarpley Raffish.

Tarpley Raffish says one day she hopes such organizations won't need to exist.

"It's important to understand you can often look at a woman and not know this is her path. In a time where we need to be kind to each other, breast cancer is just a battle on top of a battle," said Tarpley Raffish.

The walk begins at 7 a.m. on October 3. You can support the women by donating here.
