(LEWES, Del.) - If you give a dog an inch don't be so sure they won't take a mile.
Having a spacious backyard benefits dogs in many ways but it can also raise concerns for pet parents like Dr. Uday Jani.
"[Nalu] loves the backyard. We have a fence-in backyard so she loves to play with the kids," said Dr. Jani who has a black Labrador.
"But with the basketball court and the kids playing in the driveway, she wants to be part of the group. The road is right here. It's a busy road and people can hit her," he said.
So when pets don't know their boundaries, one Sussex County company offers a crystal clear solution.
"Invisible Fence Brand is strictly pet containment," said Justin Warden, manager of his family's business Invisible Fence Brand of Delmarva.
"Basically it's a training process for them to learn their own boundaries. It's all customization. We got different types of solutions and systems for the dogs and cats," said Warden.
A computerized collar and a wall of white flags make your pets understand just how far they're allowed to go. The collar activates a sensible warning if they stray too far.
"It's kind of like a tickle. It's just getting his attention and snapping him out of that behavior," said Warden referring to a Labradoodle during a home visit training session that's offered to both pet and parent.
"The whole idea is he's not seeing anything that's really tempting his ability to want to go and chase something," said Warden as he demonstrated how the invisible fence works.
For Dr. Jani, Invisible Fence is the perfect solution to allow the family dog to roam free and stay safe.
"It'll be good to fence it so she can be out with the kids and play, for her safety and for others safety. I'd rather her be safe in my yard than her run and hit a car," said Dr. Jani.
Invisible Fence also offers indoor fence solutions for pets who like to get into the trash can or other places where you may not want them to be.
