REHOBOTH BEACH, Del.- A loving mom, friend, and community member would best sum up Irene Dash.
The fellow members of her community at Sawgrass lined up their cars, some of them decorated, and prepared to celebrate her birthday. Dash teared up in joy and happiness as the parade progressed.
"This is the most exciting thing that has happened to me in my whole lifetime," Dash said.
Neighbors on her street came down to show their support and cheer on the cars as they went by. Irene’s daughters Miki and Barbara were blown away by the turnout.
"It was wonderful, It really was.," Miki said. "It was spearheaded by the two ladies over there who got it going with my sister and it’s just a wonderful thing."
Annie Wilkinson and Christine Cox organized the drive-by. They live in the Sawgrass community and have been able to get to know the Dash family over the years.
"She is just the warmest loving person, and not only Miss Irene but her children that she raised are the same way too," Cox said. "We just love the Dash family and they are deserving of this."
Barbara’s best friend Barbara Tenney has called Irene "Mom" because of her caring qualities.
"She’s just a sweetheart," Tenney said. "She’s so loving and giving and fun. She loves to laugh. She loves music and she’s wonderful to be around."
Irene is a former teacher' aide who helped children with disabilities.
