Rehoboth Beach Nativity Scene Controversy

REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. - A law firm called "First Liberty" sent a letter to the City on behalf of the Knights of Columbus on Thursday. The letter says banning the Nativity Scene display violates the First Amendment.

The letter urges Rehoboth Beach leaders to change their minds and allow Saint Edmond's Church to display a creche near the bandstand.

The city has offered to let the church put it in front of the Chamber of Commerce on Rehoboth Avenue.

A city spokesperson tells WRDE News that the city has received the letter from First Liberty and has sent to its lawyers for review.

The Knights of Columbus is the world's largest Catholic fraternal organization.
