Lawson Is A Two-Time Wrestling Champ

(DOVER, Del.)- At this year's Delaware Interscholastic Athletic Association Individual State Wrestling Finals at Dover High School Senior Cory Lawson picked up his 100th career win.

Saturday was also his birthday. He ended up defeating Sussex Centrals Brandon Bautista in the 160-pound class. The match went into overtime where Lawson pulled out the win with 15 seconds left.

Vikings Head Coach Chris Mattioni said why Lawson won.

"And he was able to that and it was a scramble position and was able to come out on top because he never stops," said Mattioni.

Lawson is now a two-time state champion for the Vikings.

"He is so non-stop on the mat and if he gets behind some guys will crumble where he will rise to the occasion," said Mattioli.

Lawson said receiving cheers from his friends and family helped him secure wins

"Without them, I would not be where I am today," said Lawson.

At this time Lawson does not have a wrestling scholarship for next year. However, Lawson said he cannot imagine not wrestling at college.
