LEWES, Del.- Spring has sprung and so has the traffic on the bike trails through Lewes. Particularly, the Lewes-Georgetown Trail had plenty of bikers and walkers on it Sunday.
Over the next week or two, the trail will not be usable from Log Cabin Hill Road to Nassau Road due to maintenance work by DelDOT. A crew will be clearing any dead tree limbs and brush that hang over the path.
Nancy Ptaszynski of Millsboro was riding back and forth along the trail, but did not notice any tree limbs potentially being a hazard.
"I didn’t see any trees over the path today, but I could see that it would be an issue if there were after a big storm maybe," Ptaszynski said. "I think they take pretty good care of this path."
The trail will be closed Monday through Thursday this week from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weather permitting. The closure will be extended if weather prohibits DelDOT from completing the work.
While that part of the trail will be closed, there is still plenty of path heading towards Lewes Beach. Eve Wyatt lives in the area. She walks the trail frequently and enjoys the sights.
"I love this trail especially coming through this part of Lewes with the herb garden and the flowers," Wyatt said. "It's just so picturesque here, I just love it.
A road block for those that are active, but there is plenty of trail that goes around.
DelDOT says this is routine maintenance done every year and there are no serious hazards along the trail.
