Local Brew Pub set to expand to Second Location but hearing protest from neighboring Church

(Lewes, DE) - Big Oyster Brewery was set to open a new location on route 9 across from Mr. P's pizza. Opposition from first Baptist church now has the attention of owner Jeff Hamer.

Hamer says, "We had a hearing that was schedule last night. We received a protest from our neighbor, first Baptist church."

Senior Pastor David Munro is firmly against having any alcohol next to the church. Pastor Munro thinks "The thought frankly of having a brewery next door to a church we thought would be a reason for it to be suspended by the alcohol commission."

Hamer wants people to know that his establishments have always been about family, food and service. The new location is all set to go as far as building permits but would like the stamp of approval from neighbors. "I think they understand that I'm not some guy whose trying to be and I hate this term, a (Dewey type of bar). People aren't going be spilling out to the streets, that's not what we do."

Pastor Munro would not like to see Big Oyster as a new neighbor but would be cordial if it happens.

Munro states "We would be good neighbors if they are allowed to be here. I believe they have made some concessions in their building to be thoughtful of us and we appreciate that."

The Alcohol Beverage Commission is looking to make a decision in about a month if Big Oyster can begin Construction.
