(SUSSEX COUNTY, Del.) - Just after 1:00 this morning police responded to a phone call from a 66-year-old male resident on the 1800 block of Johnson road. When police arrived at the home they thought they saw some type of firearm. They closed the road and evacuated neighbors that lived nearby to make sure everyone was safe.
William Brinkley, a community member and veteran, says he knows the man.
"The guy comes by the [my] house two or three times a week, very nice guy," Brinkley says.
Brinkley says the man is also a veteran, and is concerned that today's event could be an after effect of a war.
Around 12 hours later police used gas to help the man exit his house. They had an ambulance waiting to take him the hospital. The man and all officers at the scene are safe.
