Maryland Gyms and Churches Prepare for Lifted Capacity Restrictions

SALISBURY, Md - As COVID restrictions continue easing up, people are growing increasingly eager to feel a sense of normalcy and once again take up daily and weekly routines. For some, the lifting of capacity limits in Maryland means just that heading into the weekend.

Governor Hogan's revision to the once 50% capacity limits include indoor retail and recreational facilities, personal services like hair and nail salons, gyms, and houses of worship. Leadership at St. James AME Zion Church in Salisbury says while the change in restrictions are exciting, not much will change in the church's operations very soon.

“We’re still in the pandemic and we have to move as cautiously as we can," said Pastor David L. Mclendon. St. James AME Zion is currently in partnership with Wicomico County in efforts to bring vaccination opportunities to people throughout the community. Opportunities the pastor urges everyone to take advantage of in the hopes of turning the page on the pandemic. “We will get back in the church eventually, but for right now let us be patient, let us wait on the right time. Most of all God’s time," said Pastor Mclendon.

If keeping up with physical fitness is part of your daily ritual, that could come with some changes as gyms are also going back to 100% capacity. Planet Fitness in Salisbury echoes the sentiments of many businesses that while more people are welcomed in their doors, they should expect precautions to remain the same.

Chief Marketing Officer, Josh Gerber, makes it clear that cleanliness and safety remain a priority for the fitness club. “Equipment and elliptical and such will have that six foot distance. We will still have equipment marked off to create that distance in what we like to call social fitnessing, said Gerber.
