Milton Farmers Market Not Opening for Season, New Farmers Market Opening Downtown

MILTON, Del.- A little bit of farmers market shuffling in Milton, one market is closing, while another is opening up downtown.  The Milton Farmers Market has been around for 10 years, but will not be returning this season. Now, the Broadkill Farmers Market will be opening up on May 28th across the street from the Milton Fire Department. It will be open every Friday from 4-7 p.m. weather permitting.

Mary Ann Warrington, the President of Milton FD Ladies Auxiliary said, "It's a win, win for the farmers and the vendors, it's a win, win for the community to be able to come back and go to the markets and it'll be a win, win for the fire company the vendor feed will all be directed, straight into the firehouse and the auxiliary."

This coming after the organizers of the Milton Farmers Market say they can't make it happen this year for many reasons, like not having enough volunteers to stay up and running.

Patti Nicholson, on the Board of Directors for the Milton Farmers Market said, "Now that everyone, I think just about all of our people have been vaccinated but, and that's great the problem is now many of them have other health issues that they didn't have ten years ago." The organizers of the Milton market say the shortened season last year because of COVID created a heavy financial toll. A few members from the board of directors is meeting tomorrow to discuss future plans. While vendors from the market are still finding ways to stay positive, and take advantage of many of the new changes coming out soon. Krista Scudlark, with Backyard Jams & Jellies said, "This year it's nice because you can go, we're not limited to moving one way and I'm thinking that in the next week or two even the mask mandate will be lifted." Warrington asks if people come to the Broadkill Farmers Market to park in the gravel lot across the street. The farmers market is set to open on May 28th and even though there's only 6 to 10 vendors signed up right now, the theme here, if you build it they will come.
