(CINCINNATI, Ohio)- Information from the National Survey of Children with Special Health Care Needs, reveals nearly half of all pre-school aged children are on medication for attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder.
According to the Journal of Pediatrics, in 2012, there were more than six million children diagnosed with the disorder.
The American Academy of Pediatrics guidelines says, the new findings are disturbing. The AAP says, children under six-years-old should not be on ADHD medication because it could have long term effects on developing brains.
Instead, children diagnosed with ADHD under six-years-old, should be treated with behavioral therapy.
