(SALISBURY, Md.)- On November 5, 2015, the juvenile complainant recanted his original statement and acknowledged that the incident was a hoax. Indications are that the juvenile did not anticipate that the prank would extend beyond his family and had no intent to create public fear. The case will be forwarded to the Department of Juvenile Services for review.
The Salisbury Police Department would like to thank the public for their patience and heightened vigilance during this investigation. As a general safety practice, parents are encouraged to continue inspecting candy and other food items obtained during trick-or treating.
During the evening hours of November 01, 2015, Salisbury Police Officers initiated an
investigation into Halloween candy that was found to contain a sewing needle.
At approximately 5:30 p.m. Sunday evening, Salisbury Officers responded to the 1000
block of Grant Avenue for a report that a child's Halloween candy was found to contain a
sewing needle. Initial investigation revealed that on October 31, 2015 the family was trick-or-treating in the following areas; Russell Avenue, Druid Hill Avenue, Riverside Drive, West College, Camden Avenue, Evergreen Avenue and Monticello Avenue.
Further investigation revealed that on November 01, 2015, while attempting to eat the
candy, the 15 year old child observed a sewing needle lodged inside a single piece of a Twizzler brand candy. The child alerted his parents who in turn contacted the police.
