(OCEAN CITY, Md.)- It's no surprise that social media has forever changed the way people communicate, but when is social media use considered "too much", especially in the line of danger? That's the question some are asking after folks took to social media to post what happened inside the Orlando nightclub as it happened.
"[Social media] can consume people, and it can take over lives and it's kind of getting addictive. It's like I want to say an internet drug," said William Schrader of Pennsylvania.
"[Social media] is consuming with teenagers and adults even. It's really bad," said Anthony Velelon of Philadelphia.
Both Schrader and Velelon say they were shocked to see some of the posts to social media on the night of the attack, including a person's post to Snapchat where sounds of gun shots were heard in the background.
"If you're right there where the action's happening, and you're just sitting there taking a picture, then you might just get caught up in the action and get yourself hurt," said Schrader.
"I think I'd leave as quickly as I can, because it's a dangerous situation, and I don't think anyone would want to see that on social media. It's just horrible," said Velelon.
But Allan Hella, of Pittsfield, Massachusetts, says he can understand why some would do so.
"I'd expect maybe a few people to do it just to have evidence of what happened," said Hella. "I think, you know, get a clip of the shooter or something so they can at least identify them if they have to."
