SEAFORD, Del. - A serious crash involving two tractor trailers shut down Route 13 southbound in Seaford early Tuesday morning, causing major delays.

According to the Seaford Volunteer Fire Department, crews were dispatched to the scene around 2:30 a.m. on Sussex Highway near Middleford Road. The department said firefighters used a combination of hydraulic tools and a grip hoist to free a person trapped in one of the tractor trailers.

The Delaware Department of Transportation issued a traffic alert shortly afterward, stating that Route 13 southbound was closed at Norman Eskridge Highway. Drivers are being advised to avoid the area and expect delays for several hours while crews work to clear the wreckage.

There are currently no reports of the removed person's condition or a cause for the crash.
