OCEAN CITY, Md - Many of this year's highly-anticipated summer events continue to face cancellation or postponement amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Ocean City's annual Fourth of July music and fireworks show is no exception.
"We're disappointed," said Barbara Wise, traveling from Baltimore to visit the beach town with family. She expressed that while she wishes the fireworks could continue as planned, she understands the need for precautions to be taken. “Some people are very responsible and some people are not; and keeping your social distance? I think that it’s working out," said Wise
A future date for the fireworks has yet to be determined, but some other free city events will still go on with guidelines in place, like the weekly OC Beach Dance party starting Thursday, July 2nd. Families and visitors can also visit the Ocean City Lifesaving Museum which is now open to the public at reduced capacity, and requiring face-coverings for entry.
Trimper's Rides is also launching a concert series set to begin on Sunday. President of the amusement attraction, Antoinette Bruno, stating that a getaway at the park could be an outlet for those experiencing cabin fever amid the pandemic. "People have felt caged in with no ability to have any fun, and Trimper's is all about fun. We want you to rock and ride".
On the towns gradual return large-scale community events, the Town of Ocean City's website states:
"As we move forward with Ocean City’s free events, all partakers must adhere to State guidelines in practicing physical distancing. Attending any of these gatherings will be at your own risk. Our goal is to bring family-friendly activities back to the Town carefully and safely under fluid State Orders and Directives.”
Friday, the OC Air Show, another summer classic, officially announced August 15th - August 16th to be the newly rescheduled date for the event.
