(OCEAN CITY, Md.)- During the day on Thursday the busses in Ocean City were quiet, only one or two riders per bus. But according to the Town's records nearly two million people rode the Ocean City buses during the 2015 summer months.
"The tourists, a lot of drunk people, that's basically what it is," said Jake Howe of Ocean City.
The Maryland Transit Authority suggests the Town of Ocean City apply for a grant to fund surveillance cameras on all of their resort buses.
"Just like our police control cameras, if an incident happens, it's basically recorded and stored on its own for a certain amount of time," said Jessica Waters, spokesperson for the town.
"It's a good idea, and it'll deter people from doing things that they normally wouldn't do because people really just want to come to the beach, have a good time and go home.," said Tom Jackson at the Ocean City bus stop on Thursday.
The MTA estimates five or six cameras on the inside and out of each bus.
"If I'm just hanging out on the bus trying to go to the beach or to my friends, that's creepy because they could just be watching, watching what people are doing," said Jake Howe.
The total cost of the project is $500,000 dollars but the town of Ocean City will only be responsible for $50,000. Jessica Waters said it would be part of next town budget.
Waters said if all goes well they hope to receive the grant by next summer.
