DELMARVA- "Operation We Care" is not letting the pandemic keep them down. The organization is still working to gather donations for troops overseas, but the organization needs all the help it can get. With no large packing events, fundraisers have also been put on hold, but that's not keeping Operation We Care from reaching its goal. Jeff Merritt, the Founder of Operation We Care said, "With our smaller events that we've been doing once or twice a month, we're going to be pretty close, over 2,000 boxes so pretty proud of that." Operation We Care started in 2007, since then it has sent over 20,000 boxes to troops. Merritt says the feedback from overseas can be overwhelming especially this time of year. He said, "You know if you can imagine being away from home for a long period of time, you know especially during the holidays, it's a little bit of a difficult time for a lot of people." He says that donations are needed to help make this happen. "We spend a lot of money, the postage alone for our care packages is over $40,000 a year so fundraising is a pretty nonstop project for us," Merritt said. Merritt says they are looking for toiletry items, snacks and much more. Things that are easier to find on Delmarva while shopping might not be as easy to find where these troops are. "But where some of these troops are deployed, the access to these items is not always very easy," he said. He says you can go to
operationwecare.orgto find a list of items that people can donate. All the information like where to go, and how to send donations can be found on the website.
