Peaceful Day at Legislative Hall Despite Protest Warning From FBI

DOVER, Del.- Dover Police, state police, and Delaware Capitol Police were all present around the state’s capitol building Sunday. Some officers were walking around the perimeter while others kept a close eye by driving around.

The ramped up security was in response to the FBI’s warning of possible protests leading up to President-Elect Joe Biden’s Inauguration Day.

Three women including Marsha Lees of Dover have been part of a group that has been walking seven laps around Legislative Hall each day since December 2. They are looking for fairness and truth when it comes to the election and the Coronavirus. They were not concerned about their safety despite rumored events.

"We pretty much pray for and get acquainted with all of the officers and everyone has been fabulous," Lees said. "We have no fear of the police. We thank them. We cherish them. So, its been fine and one of them even commented how well protected we were today and we said yes, thank you."

When WRDE arrived in Dover Sunday morning, Dover Police blocked off any roads leading to Legislative Hall. Capitol Police was patrolling the area throughout the day with other agencies keeping a close eye from the top of the building.

Some people participated in their normal activities like a nice walk including Linda Leonard of Clayton. She felt safe being in the area and thinks there is a peaceful way to protest.

"I feel safe," Leonard said. "I’m just very vigilant and I just feel safe. Everybody has a right to free speech but it’s a way of doing it."

Now the concern shifts to Inauguration Day where protests are rumored to take place nationwide.
