People of Different Religions Celebrate Seder Meal

(LEWES, Del.)- Months of planning and days of food preparation have ended. 300 people gathered at Conley's Methodist Church in Lewes, for a first-of-its-kind Seder meal. People of Jewish, Protestant, and Catholic religions gather to 'break bread'.

"It was a dream of mine," said Deacon David McDowell, St. Michael the Archangel. "I believe too many times we have seperated ourselves from some people, and this brings us together."

The traditional Jewish meal was led by a Rabbi. With 300 hungry people to feed, it took alot of food. 225 pounds of beef brisket, 150 pounds of potatoes and green beans, and 90 quarts of grape juice.

"We started by seasoning the brisket and potatoes," said Chef Cheryl Wood. "Refridgerating it overnight and getting it heated up for today."

While it was the traditonal Seder food some people were looking forward to, others were hoping to learn something different.

"I think I will learn a little bit more," said Judy Giles. "And understqand a little bit better what this is all about and I'm thrilled to be here."

There are no solid plans for another Seder meal next year, but McDowell said he hopes to make this an annual event.
