(SUSSEX COUNTY, Del.) - Perdue Farms, Inc. plans to bring 150 jobs to Sussex County in the next two years.
Governor Jack Markell announced the plans in his State of the State Address Thursday in Dover.
Perdue plans to move its "Perdue AgriBusiness" subsidiary headquarters in Salisbury to a yet to be determined location in western Sussex County.
Perdue public relations officer, Julie DeYoung said "Delaware is essential to their entire "AgriBusiness" operation on Delmarva." She said it was a major reason the company's decided to move their headquarters to Sussex County along with dozens of jobs.
The move will bring about 150 executive, management and support positions.
Perdue says the move will support the company's growth in grain, feeds and other agricultural services.
It's also a move that could bring competition to the doorsteps on Delaware-based chicken processing company, Mountaire.
"I think it'll be good for the local economy with DuPont since they went downhill or reduced their job force years ago there's not been many jobs coming here," said Seaford resident John Bonnett.
Perdue says they're actively looking for a location. Perdue Farms, Inc. plans to remain at its headquarters in Salisbury.
