(Dover, Del.)- Dover Police are investigating a late night shooting at the American Legion on Bay Road early Sunday morning.
Officers responded for a report of several shots fired. When they arrived they found several spent shell casings in the parking lot, indicating that gunfire was exchanged between at least two parties.
Police say a 26-year-old man was shot in the left hip and is currently listed in serious but stable condition.
While officers were attempting to clear the parking lot, an officer was standing next to vehicle when a gunshot was fired from within the vehicle.
The officer, who was unharmed, immediately took the people in the vehicle into custody.
Darnell Waples, 30, accidentally fired the gun as he was trying to conceal it in the vehicle.
