(BLADES, Del.)- The Delaware Nature Society's Abbott's Mill Nature Center is hosting its second annual recycled cardboard boat race on the Nanticoke River on Aug. 8 as part of the Reclaim Our River Nanticoke Series.
Reclaim Our River presents monthly events for the Nanicoke Watershed for the area to connect with the Delaware waterways, according to the Delaware Department of Natural Resources.
Anyone can participate in the race. Registration is $30 from Aug. 2 to Aug. 8. Day-of registration starts at 12 p.m. Boats must be made from recycled cardboard, and have to be painted with enamel or polyurethane paint. They have to be able to travel about 200 yards to the finish line as well.
First place will be awarded in four categories including individual, family, clubs and businesses, and non-profits and government organizations. Other awards include Best Constructed Boat, Best Decorated Boat and Best Team Effort, among others.
The race will sail off from the Nanticoke River Public Marine Park on North Market Street in Blades, Del. at 2 p.m. For more information, visit delawarewatersheds.org.
