REHOBOTH BEACH, Del.- The first day of the season to get some fresh, local products at the Rehoboth Beach Farmer's Market, despite starting a weeks later than usual, people came out to shop local. People came out right at 10 a.m. to take advantage of the Farmers Market for the first time this season. And when you came in your hands were sprayed with hand sanitizer and they also made sure that people were social distancing the entire time through. Krista Scudlark, the Owner of Backyard Jams and Jellies said, "It's just good to be here again, it's like everything is normal, sort of." People enjoyed the Farmers Market, but it's a little different from last year. Masks are a must, social distancing encouraged, and it's one way in, and one way out, people are asked not to back track. Pat Coluzzi, Rehoboth Beach Commissioner said, "And no ready to eat food there's no sampling, there's no cooking at the market, we've had people do burgers and things like that but they can't do that now." The vendors say being back is about more than just making money again. Scudlark said, "But we make them all through the winter and then we really look forward to seeing our old customers, new customers and even the other vendors at the Farmers Market." Following the Governor's orders, and making their own modifications to make people as safe as possible. The Farmers Market gave vendors trays so when people do submit their payment they can still keep their distance and for people who came to the Farmers Market they said it was an overall great experience and they would so it all again. Michelle Hysock, from Millsboro said, "Just the sunshine, the fresh air, the comradery and recipes and the things you don't get in a grocery store, like you know they tell you how they source the product and some recipes to go along with it." An experience many say is unmatched. Unfortunately all the usual vendors are not at the market just yet, but there are plans to help them as soon as possible. "We're hoping to get them in as well because all small businesses are important and they depend on this income and as far as the produce I mean a local source of food is so important," Coluzzi said. The Farmers Market says it can hold between 38-40 people at a time. And from the looks of things today, people were more than happy to follow all the rules to continue supporting local. The Farmers Market says it is operating with about fifty percent of the vendors that it usually has so they can practice social distancing. As for the Lewes Farmers Market that will open up Saturday May 30th. For both Farmers Markets you need to be wearing a mask to enter.
