Santa Coming to Rehoboth Beach Tonight, Businesses Staying Open Later

REHOBOTH BEACH, Del.- Santa will be making his way around Rehoboth Beach tonight on top of an old school fire truck. Catching a glimpse of the man in red should not be hard as he will be downtown until 7:30 tonight waving at kids for most of the night. Many kids are excited to see him, and the businesses are excited for the opportunities he brings as well.   "Enjoy some dinner, you know grab a drink," said Dan Slagel with Rehoboth Beach Main Street. Saint Nick himself has been making his rounds in Delaware, in Lewes last week, and last night in Milton. He's making his way through Rehoboth Beach tonight. He's bringing holiday cheer, along with some much needed attention to the struggling businesses. Carol Everhart, President of the Rehoboth-Dewey Beach Chamber Commerce said, "We are at about half as far as occupancy in our hotels, and as far as visitation overnight. We do see a lot of visitation from the surrounding area." Even though Santa won't be coming to town on his sleigh he will be on top of the fire truck, and to make sure that everything is safe and socially distanced he won't be stepping off to greet the kids, but he does have something else in store. Slagel said, "Santa's going to be giving out coloring books, they're wrapped in plastic bags, we also have candy canes we're giving out, also Santa over here we can put letters, you kids can drop off your letter to Santa."  Some businesses downtown are looking forward to tonight. Like the Shorebreak Lodge Restaurant who says this year hasn't been a total loss. Sean Pusatero, the Co-Owner of the Shorebreak Lodge Restaurant said, "It puts people in the proper mindset that the holidays are not a bust, they're happening, we're just approaching them differently, we have protocols in places and mandates in place that we at Shorebreak are respecting and exercising everyday." They will be offering holiday drinks tonight as well and many other stores downtown are staying open late to try and get some extra business. Santa can be seen in tons of places throughout Delaware this holiday, so keep your eyes peeled, he moves fast!
