Sea Rocket, a provider of aquatic activities in Ocean City, finds itself in a legal dispute with the Ocean City City Council over its venture into houseboat rentals.
Sussex County Council Member John Rieley says that this is just a part of being a farmer and a developer offered the excess topsoil. But Councilman Mark Schaeffer says taking the topsoil was an unethical deal. He publicly called on Rieley to resign yesterday.
On November 12, 2019 the Sussex County Council adopted an ordinance for an accommodations or lodging tax of three percent on hotels, motels, or tourist homes.
On May 25 of this year, the council brought up reinstating the tax knowing that a lift of the state of emergency would come soon. It was lifted on July 13 and a letter was sent out to business owners on June 21.
