The Delaware State Housing Authority has awarded over $5 million dollars in Housing Stability Program (HSP) grants to eight community partner organizations across the state.
The Delaware State Housing Authority (DSHA) has allocated an additional $100,000 to the Eviction Defense Project (EDP) to aid low-income renters in Delaware. In collaboration with legal services providers and justice partners, the EDP offers free legal aid to tenants facing eviction or loss of housing, aiming to expand its outreach statewide with the newfound support from the Emergency Rental Assistance Program.
Senate Bill 99 disallows municipalities from requiring that landlords evict tenants based on their involvement in the justice system. If passed, landlords will still have the ability to choose to evict a tenant for criminal activity or other lease violations. This bill just prevents making those evictions mandatory.
