People who live in New Castle County will have more time to pay their property tax bills for the 2025-2026 tax year after the House of Representatives passed a bill Thursday during a special session.

The Delaware Senate voted unanimously Thursday to extend the property tax payment deadline for New Castle County to Dec. 31, giving taxpayers additional time to adjust to recent changes stemming from the property reassessment.

The Delaware Court of Chancery has upheld House Bill 242, a law that changes how property taxes are calculated following the state’s long-delayed reassessments.
