Separatists in northern Mali have joined Islamic militants in a major coordinated attack on the Malian army. The attack, which took place Saturday, targeted the capital and several other cities, leaving at least 16 wounded. It marks the first time the Tuareg-led Azawad Liberation Front has operated alongside the al-Qaida-linked group JNIM. A spokesperson for the separatists stated the operation was in partnership with JNIM to defend against the military regime in Bamako. The government announced a three-day overnight curfew in response. The separatists also urged Russia to reconsider its support for Mali's military junta.
