DNREC will close The Point at Cape Henlopen State Park beginning Sunday, March 1, to protect nesting grounds and migratory paths for threatened and endangered bird species.
As summer nears, diamondback terrapins are on the move. Operation Terrapin Rescue, a state-supported volunteer program, is asking for help again from the public to safely guide these native turtles to reach their nesting grounds.
The timing of The Point in Cape Henlopen State Park reopening aligned perfectly with Labor Day Weekend. As a result, beachgoers flocked to The Point all weekend long.
The piping plover is listed as a state-endangered species in Delaware by the DNREC Division of Fish and Wildlife.
