The Department of Justice said investigations indicated that Matthew Dufour had deliberately mishandled drug evidence that was set for destruction on as many as 13 occasions. Investigations followed a Feb. 19 incident in which Dufour was found unresponsive in his police vehicle.

After a preliminary investigation, it was suspected the officer may have tampered with drug evidence before falling unconscious.
