(LEWES, Del.) - Delaware State Police responded to a call of a car partially swallowed by a sinkhole in Lewes Thursday morning.
Police said the incident occurred around 11 a.m. as a 30-year-old Connecticut man was driving out of a private driveway located on the 20000 block of Plantations Road, Lewes.
The car owner's mother tells WRDE the broken main flooded their yard almost knee deep. She says she saw the car plunge nose-first as her son drove out of the driveway. Fortunately, he wasn't hurt.
Construction crews tell WRDE they were digging to install new gas lines when they hit the water main. A heavy wrecker was called in and the car was eventually pulled out.
