(LEWES, Del.)The sound of rubber squeaking against the hardwood
Saturday could only mean one thing -- the start of "Slam Dunk To The Beach" at Cape Henlopen High School.
Some of the nation's top high school ballers from right here in Delaware to as far as Kansas took to the court today to show off their skills.
"The teams that are playing are definitely a whole lot better than I thought they would be, said an excited Susan Pratzner, whose daughter sang the national anthem at the start of the event.
It's not a surprise. The tournament has a history of attracting greatness.
NBA superstars like Carmelo Anthony and LeBron James have played on the same court.
"You're not going to find much better high school basketball competition this time of year than we have here," said Dr. Matthew Robinson, the Chairman of the Delaware Sports Commission.
We're only one day into this tournament and some people are already asking for it to return next year.
It would be great to see it stay at cape. My daughter graduated from here and it's a great location, great school. I think everyone enjoys this locale,' said Pratzner.
That's exactly what the DSC is looking for. They're behind bringing the tournament back.
"I hope the people that come have a great experience," said Robinson.
"Delaware is a great state. We're the first state, but we're first in a lot of other things too. So we hope people come and they come back."
