(SUSSEX COUNTY, DE.)-The three day Slam Dunk Holiday Tourney in Lewes will begin at the end of the month.One of the teams that will be featured in this tourney is the Smyrna Eagles.The Eagles are the defending State Champions. This year they are off to a good start as they are undefeated.
The Eagles are flying high for the second straight year as they are participating in Slam Dunk To The Beach. It takes place from December 27th to the 29th.
Senior Caleb Matthews is one of the players who are back this year.
"I think it is a great experience for our guys to get out there and play against top-level competition," said Matthews."We were down their last year but only three or four return from this team.It will be good to what see what it is like taking on the big-time competition."
Coach Andrew Mears is so excited that the Smyrna Eagles versus Roselle Catholic game will be aired on WRDE Delmarva's Own NBC station on Thursday, December 28th at 2 PM.
"It is exciting for our guys when you start throwing TV, primetime out their and you start talking about our opponent it definitely perks their ears a little bit so definitely there is a lot of excitement starting.
The Eagles opponent Roselle Catholic is making its third appearance at the tourney.
Chairman Of Slam Dunk To The Beach Dr. Matthew Robinson is excited to have them back in the tourney.
"Great team and a great coach and they have Nazr Reid and who is on his way to LSU and will potentially be in the NBA in a year or two," said Dr. Robinson.
Coach Mears said he has seen a lot of film of Roselle Catholic and said he is expecting a battle because they are such a good team.
