SALISBURY, MD -- The Pocomoke Warrior Field Hockey team captured it's second consecutive Maryland 1A state championship yesterday with a commanding 5-1 victory over South Carroll.
Senior Midfielder Marli McDorman was everywhere, making an impact both defensively and on the scoresheet, tallying a hat trick in the win.
The game was fairly even at the break, as South Carroll answered a McDorman goal in the first quarter with one of their own off the stick of Audrey Lillycrop in the second.
It wasn't until the halfway mark of the third quarter when the game shifted heavily towards Pocomoke, when McDorman netted two goals to give the Warriors a 3-1 cushion heading into the final quarter.
Pocomoke forward Dakota Trainor sealed the win for the Warriors with a pair of fourth quarter goals.
Not only is this Pocomoke's second consecutive state championship, but it is also their unprecedented 21st title in program history.
