SALISBURY, Md. -- The Delmarva Shorebirds were in a bit of a groove entering the third of a six game set with the Fredericksburg Nationals earlier tonight; having been winners of four of their last five.
However, Fredericksburg was able to cool down Delmarva, picking up an 8-4 win, backed by a strong five innings of pitching from starter Jose Atencio.
This one was still in question entering the final two innings, as the Shorebirds managed to claw their way back from a 4-0 deficit thanks to a grand slam off the bat of Anderson De Los Santos in the bottom of the sixth.
That was when the Nationals would strike, as Sammy Infante drove home what would be the game winning run on an RBI single. Fredericksburg would add three more insurance runs over the final two innings to secure the victory.
The Shorebirds now fall to seven games under .500 with a record of 35-42. They will now finish off the final three games of their series with the Nationals Friday through Sunday.
