SUSSEX COUNTY, Del.- It's beginning to look a little bit like the holidays around Sussex County. Towns and cities that usually have holiday events are looking to hold them safely while keeping the traditions alive.
This year may be different from what we are used to, but we can still celebrate the season of giving and spread cheer to everyone.
Millsboro will host their annual parade on December 5 followed by a tree lighting at the town center. The route will be the same but there will be no indoor activities. Town Manager Sheldon Hudson is confident that people will be safe.
"The only two gathering points are the tree lighting here at the town center as well as the parade lineup, but really the crowd is dispersed along the parade route so there is not really anyone gathering," Hudson said.
Georgetown will have a reverse parade this year in order to keep everyone safe. Businesses and first responders will have their floats in place in parking areas while visitors will drive around the circle and see everything from their cars.
Kids will have to look up to find Santa Claus on December 15 as he will be greeting all the boys and girls from the balcony of the Brick Hotel. Greater Georgetown Chamber of Commerce President Linda Price is excited to see smiles on every child's face.
"The message for us is that we want to end the year on a high note," Price said. We want to bring some positivity and some hope to our residents which is what they wanted."
Unlike past years where Saint Nicholas could greet people face to face, Santa Claus will visit Milford every Friday and Saturday from November 28 to December 20 in a drive-by event. The Milford Christmas Market will take place on December 4 where vendors will be selling holiday items. Downtown Milford Inc. Interim Executive Director Cat Perfetti is making sure those events go on safely and joyfully.
"Being able to get out a little bit and do it in a safe manner," Perfetti said. "To bring that holiday spirit and be able to shop and make it feel like that sense of normalcy is going on."
