Sussex County Sinkhole Causes Road Closures

(GLENWOOD, Del.) - A corroded pipe forces Delaware Department of Transportation to make repairs sooner than expected.

The pipe created a large sinkhole that stretches across both Northbound and Southbound.

The unexpected issue can be found on Adams Road between Mile Stretch and Woodbridge Roads in Greenwood, Del.

DelDOT was aware that the pipe needed to be fixed and they were planning to replace it later in the summer months.

"Due to heavy rainfall, and high intensity rainfall we had this weekend. First part of the week we noticed we had a failure in the shoulder. So therefore the pipe got replaced a little sooner than we expected," explained Jeff Reed, DelDOT's South District engineer.

Adams Road is currently closed due to the construction and is expected to reopen this Friday.
