REHOBOTH BEACH, Del.- Testing sites across the First State, many in Sussex County as the coast has become a targeted spot for the state to focus on. This is the second time that the testing has been done at Epworth and the State could be hosting many more across the county for the foreseeable future as long as case numbers continue to rise. Long lines to wait for testing. Backing up all the way to Route One near the Royal Farms in Rehoboth Beach. Testing people both with and without symptoms. Just like Twig Burton who says she feels great, but is doing her part.
Burton who lives in Rehoboth Beach said, "Where I live and hang and socialize so I just thought it was a responsible thing to get tested, just to have the information." Others just like Burton could have the opportunity to get test here next week. The church says the state does plan to have a testing event every Thursday for the foreseeable future from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. just like it has done for the last two weeks. The most recent data from the states website shows Sussex County is testing 10.2 percent of patients positive. Having 243 positive per ten thousand as opposed to New Castle and Kent County who are both testing less than 100 per every ten thousand. Making these sites more important to provide accurate data. With plenty of hands on deck to help, some say the site went smoothly. With the support of the Delaware National Guard to lend a helping hand.
Staff Sergeant Jonathon Chigges, with the National Guard said, "We're just making sure that their names are matching up, then we're linking up the test kits to them and then we're sending them to our testing sites down the road a little bit and they are able to do it themselves or we have soldiers, airmen there to walk them through the process." Burton says she thinks she is healthy, but there's always that small chance her test comes back positive. She said, "I really don't think I have it, knock on wood, I think I've been 95 percent vigilant with social distancing and mask wearing and critical cases but there's always that five percent." The state does plan to have plenty more testing sites all across the state of Delaware, and those sites can be found at coronavirus.delaware.gov
