GEORGETOWN, Del.- Testing continues in Sussex County as cases number decline, Delaware Technical Community College yet again host to the testing site in Georgetown today. Georgetown was targeted in the past for more testing, and more educational materials. Now, the state is saying the situation here is a lot more under control. DEMA hosts yet another another testing site in Sussex County. With additional testing being done all over the state every single day. Delaware Senator Tom Carper stopped by today to see what it was all about. "Not just do as I say, but do as I do and I think it's important for the people of Delaware, the people of our country to not just see us get tested, all of us get tested, but to wear these masks," Carper said. He even took a test to further prove his point. The state is showing that in Georgetown over 800 people for every 10,000 is testing positive. DEMA says when it comes to the poultry workers that outbreak was earlier on in the pandemic but is starting to see a trend now where cases in Georgetown are starting to decline. DEMA says in the last week only three new cases have shown up in Georgetown. In the entire state, there is also a trend of declining positive cases. But as testing continues so does the help and extra hands needed to bring the response to the first state. "This is a different kind of challenge today, the pandemic we haven't seen this kind of challenge for a hundred years but who's here, the Delaware National Guard," Carper said. Sgt. Edward Graves, with the Delaware National Guard said, "But it is nice to serve home you're kind of serving your community and that's the part I like about it the most." The decline in cases largely in part because no more serious outbreaks have sparked up recently. DEMA says, " It should also be noted that no information has been released about any significant spikes, such as what happened at the beach in early July, or other headlines which would typically increase interest in testing." DEMA also says there were over 70,000 tests last month, and expects to have tested around 50,000 people in August. The states data is showing that hospitalizations are trending slightly up to around 50. But this is also the highest it has been since the end of July with the lowest number being in the high 20s over a week ago.
