GEORGETOWN, Del.-Â A business in a historical building helps a neighbor around the circle on an International Day of Charity.
The Counting House Restaurant and Pub was the site of a fundraiser today benefiting Pathways to Success. A portion of today’s daily sales will be going to the organization.
The restaurant’s owner Bill Clifton says there needs to be more focus on education and helping children so that they can succeed, making Pathways a great fit.
"I feel there is a lot of focus elsewhere than directly into your community," Clifton said. "I think a lot of things are consuming how we feel and I want to give a sense of community back to our neighbors here at Pathways to Success and to all the schools."
International Day of Charity was established as September 5 in 2012 by the United Nations General Assembly. They ask people and organizations around the world to give back and/or raise awareness in some way.
The mission of Pathways to Success is to make an impact in the lives of local children. The organization provides resources and supplies to help children through school and offers a housing assistance program.
As Pathways does charitable work of its own, Founder and Executive Director Fayetta Blake was grateful to be on the receiving end on this significant day.
"One of the things we know is that we cannot help our kids without establishments like the Counting House and so many others that do charitable things and give us money, donations, etc. to help the kids," Blake said.

The fundraiser will go until 9 p.m. tonight.
