(OCEAN CITY, Md.) - Ocean City's famed boardwalk is the Travel Channel's number one pick for best boardwalks in America.
The local staple beat four other boardwalks around the country to take the title home. It's a proud moment for locals.
"The boardwalk itself is always in fairly good shape. They try to replace it as often as they can afford to do it. It's everything. It's the people it's the businesses, just the excitement," said Steven Travers, an Ocean City resident.
Even in the winter the boardwalk is an irresistible hotspot for walks, bike rides, and views of the ocean.
"I'm just really proud that the beach town in our state got an award like that because i like it when Maryland wins things," said Maryland native Will Hopkins.
"We love coming here to ride in the off season. They keep it really clean. It's very peaceful, nice, friendly people. You can always find something interesting to do," said Jolaine Beyer of Harrisburg, Pa.
Built in 1902, the boardwalk has transformed over the years from running just five blocks in its early days to eventually spanning three miles - giving us more room to enjoy the attraction we all know and love today.
Other boardwalks the Travel Channel named include New York's Coney Island and the Venice beach boardwalk in California.
