OCEAN CITY, Md.- The final roars of engines were heard down Coastal Highway in Ocean City late Sunday night for the close of an unsanctioned H2Oi car rally.
Drivers and spectators left their mark during the weekend, and for the most part not in a good way.
Ocean City released a statement Sunday morning on unlawful behavior throughout the weekend. More than 100 participants were arrested for either a criminal offense and /or a traffic violation. Those participants "became unruly and destructive in the evening hours."
More law enforcement was requested at about midnight Sunday morning to assist with containing people acting unruly.
“Unfortunately, the disorderly behavior and unruly crowds left no choice but to shift our philosophy and take additional steps to protect our officers and our community," Ocean City Police Chief Ross Buzzuro stated.
Participants like Juan Fernando-Martinez of Woodbridge, Virginia prioritized being respectful while enjoying himself.
"I can speak on behalf of a lot of the community, it is a good feeling to be out here and be surrounded by the people that enjoy the same activities that we enjoy," Fernando-Martinez said. "But, at the same time we like to be safe and avoid as much police contact as we can."
Car lovers like Lincoln Davis of Dover were able to see all kinds of makes and models during the weekend.
"It’s crazy to see an imported R-34, a red one," Davis said. "It’s crazy. You got Hondas, you got BMWs, Volkswagens, you got American, Domestic, European, JDM,. There’s definitely a good variety."
