Troopers Investigate Deadly Pedestrian Crash, Bowers Beach

(Bowers Beach, Del.)- The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is currently investigating a fatal pedestrian crash that occurred Wednesday evening.

Preliminary investigation has determined that the incident occurred around 5:05 p.m. Wednesday December 3, 2014 as Shane T. Allaband, 19 of Dover was operating a 1997 Ford F250 pickup truck westbound on Bowers Beach Road just west of Bayview Road outside the town of Bowers Beach. Brittany Ford, 16 of Bowers Beach, was standing on the north side of the westbound lanes in front of a row of evergreen trees that run parallel to the road. The pickup was pulling onto the shoulder preparing to make a right turn into a private drive, when, for unknown reasons, Brittany Ford jumped into the roadway in front of the truck. Allaband attempted to swerve to the left to try to avoid striking the young female, but was unable and struck her with the front bumper throwing her onto the center of the roadway. The truck was able to come to a controlled stop in the private driveway after the impact.

Brittany Ford was initially taken by EMS to Kent General Hospital and later transported to AI DuPont Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries on Friday December 5, 2014.

Shane Allaband, as well as a 20 year old male and 16 year old female passenger, were all properly restrained, and uninjured in the crash.

The Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing their investigation into this incident. Speed and alcohol do not appear to be a factor in this collision.
