Two Wicomico County Schools Will Provide Free Meals To Students

(WICOMICO COUNTY, Md.) - Wicomico County schools will offer a new free meal program to all students in Glen Elementary and Chipman Elementary.

This program is part of the federal Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act.

Director of food services Eric Goslee said this program allows children to focus on their

performance in school.

"Students that are well fed and well-nourished become better students in and out of the classroom," Goslee said. They can be life-long learners and, do not have to worry about where

their next meal is coming from."

The new free meal program takes the paperwork out of free and reduced lunch and provides meals to every student at Glen Avenue Elementary and Chipman Elementary.

Yusheka Holbrook has two children at Glen Avenue Elementary. She said this program takes a weight off of her shoulders.

"My kids really need it," Holbrook said. "I'm grateful that they can have a program in case they forget their lunch money. If we can't afford lunch they won't feel different than any other student."

Glen Avenue Elementary principal Lillie Giddens said she is grateful to have the help to feed the kids she sees every day.

"On the first day of school all of our children will come in knowing that when lunch time comes they will have the opportunity to eat."
