(GREENVILLE, Del.)- The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate a fatal motor vehicle crash which has claimed the life of a 58 year old Chadds Ford, PA man that occurred this morning in Greenville.
The investigation has determined that the crash occurred at approximately 7:47 a.m. this morning, Wednesday, May 25, 2016, as Brandon Harper, 26, of Hockessin, DE, was operating a 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee and was traveling in a northbound direction on Montchanin Road, just south of Adams Dam Road, Hockessin. As Harper drove his vehicle over a set of railroad tracks which crossed the roadway, he lost control and entered into the southbound lane of Montchanin Road. The front of his vehicle struck the front of a 2011 Toyota Rav 4, which was being operated by a 58 year old Chadds Ford, PA man. The Toyota then spun off of the west edge of the road. Its rear then struck and landed on the top of a stone wall before coming to rest.
The male operator of the Toyota, who was properly restrained at the time of the crash, was treated at the scene by New Castle County Paramedics before being transported to the Christiana Hospital Trauma Center where he died as a result of his injuries. His name is being withheld pending the notification of his next of kin.
Brandon Harper, who was also properly restrained at the time of the crash, was treated at the scene by paramedics as well. He was then removed from the scene by EMS and transported to the Christiana Hospital where he was treated and admitted for his injuries.
This crash remains under investigation by the Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash.
Montchanin Road was closed for approximately 3 hours as the crash was investigated and cleared.
